Are lions endangered ?

Unfortunately yes, lions are endangered. Scientists at Oxford University have concluded that the population of lions in Africa has declined sharply. And in some regions these predators are on the verge of extinction, the Russian newspaper writes.

Researchers compared the situation over the past 25 years in 47 regions of the continent and found that in Central and West Africa the number of lions in 20 years could be halved. The situation is no better in East Africa, scientists say.

It is noted that the primary cause of extinction of lions is man’s economic activity: forest tracts are rapidly decreasing, and this leads to a narrowing of the living space for animals.

According to experts from Oxford, the authorities of African countries must take a number of measures to preserve the lions. Among the necessary are the creation of reserves, limiting the destruction of animals, which are preyed on by lions, and the development of tourism.
