Facts about arctic wolves

This arctic predator looks like many wolves. However, it differs from its relatives in thick white with a rusty shade of fur and fluffy tail like a fox. This color gives him the opportunity to be invisible among the eternal snows and easily sneak up to the prey. The arctic wolf is a fairly large beast. The body length of the male weighing about 90 kg is about 180 cm, and its height at the withers reaches up to 1 m.

Females with such impressive sizes do not differ, but the ability of wolves to crack the largest bones with the help of 42 powerful teeth causes genuine fear of these harsh inhabitants of the Arctic. In addition, muscular long legs allow them to travel long distances and tirelessly pursue the victim.

Unlike their southern counterparts, the arctic wolves are not distinguished by their finicky eating habits. Therefore, they eat everything that can be caught. The main prey of polar wolves are reindeers and musk oxen. However, not always hunting for these animals is successful.

Therefore it is necessary to be satisfied with smaller inhabitants of the Arctic. Arctic wolves are very hardy. In conditions of severe climate, they can do without food for about 2 weeks. After a successful hunt, predators are able to absorb about 10 kg of meat in one sitting. Including bones and the skin of the victim.

Live and hunt polar wolves in packs, which observe a strict hierarchy, and each member of the pack knows its place.

These dangerous predators have preserved their habitat only because a person is not in a hurry to live the harsh Arctic. Therefore, here they rightfully rule, like their ancient ancestors.
