Interesting facts about Bremen

Bremen is a city, even if in absentia we are all familiar to the “Bremen musicians”. In fact, it is an amazingly beautiful German town that has carried through centuries its authenticity and unique atmosphere. Local residents are proud of the historical heritage of their city, and not for nothing – it really does feel the spirit of the Middle Ages. Skyscrapers of glass and concrete here is not the place.

In 787 Bremen was founded in order to serve as a residence for the Bishop. Over the past centuries the city, however, has grown considerably.

In different periods of his history Bremen managed to visit Germany, France and Sweden.

For several centuries, Bremen was the main shopping center in the whole of northern Europe, due to which it deserved the unofficial name of “northern Rome”.

Founded long before the unification of the scattered German principalities into a single country, Bremen was and remains the oldest of all German city-states.

The symbol of the city is the statue of Roland, installed in the very center of Bremen, on the Market Square. The locals believe that Roland defends his city, and if the statue does not exist, Bremen will lose its independence.

In Brazil there is a city called Rolandia. It is named after the aforementioned Roland, since it was founded by the Bremen immigrants.

During the Second World War, nine-tenths of the ancient buildings in Bremmen were damaged or destroyed at all.
