Is a duck a bird ?

Yes, ducks are birds. Ducks, geese and swans belong to the family of ducks – one of the oldest groups of animals that existed more than 80 million years ago. In this family related to the group of geese, two main subfamilies are distinguished: goose, which includes geese and swans, and ducks, which unites all ducks.

All waterfowl are mostly aquatic, they have membranous paws and oily, waterproof plumage. Most domestic ducks are descended from a wild mallard. Waterfowl are attractive, they easily adapt to life with a person, are hardy and independent.

They live for a long time, not sick, on ordinary ponds or lakes. Many domestic breeds become affectionate, attached to humans pets.

Domestic ducks become tame, especially if a person brings them up from an early age. Sometimes you have to catch birds – to cut wings, give medicine or for transportation. Ducks should be held with the palm of one hand by the chest, and their feet should be clamped between the fingers of the other hand. Ducks need to restrict freedom so that they do not fly away.
