The exact origin of turtles is unknown to science, but already 200 million years ago their ancestors had a strong shell. A feature of these animals is a small head of a streamlined shape, which the turtle can hide inside the shell in case of danger. There also hides a short tail. Tortoises breed, laying eggs and digging them into the sand.
