What do Warthogs eat ?

The main food of the warthog is grass. Warthogs do not disdain seeds and roots, some fruits and even sometimes small animals. Another feature of the warthog – calluses on the knees of the front legs. The fact is that a short and slow-moving fat neck does not allow eating and drinking with comfort, so at the watering place and pasture the pig kneels. In the same position, the warthog digs burrows. Kneeling crawling warthogs in the vast savannah can often be found early in the morning and in the evenings, when the animals graze.

The warthog’s skin is specially adapted for the hot African climate. It is much thinner than that of its European relatives. The back and neck are covered with a long black mane – rare and stiff. Very funny in warthogs ponytail – rather long bald and thin, it ends with a small thickening and a brush. When a pig feels danger and runs away, the tail goes up like an antenna. For this ridiculous feature, the warthogs were nicknamed “Radio Africa”.

The active life of warthogs begins in the daytime, at night the pigs prefer to sleep. Pigs have burrows – for recreation they use crevices in rocks, abandoned termites, burrows of porcupine and pipe-toothed teeth, which at night just go off on business, or dig a “house” themselves. And in a narrow mink the pigs crawl, backing behind and closing their entrance with a wide muzzle. However, this is a rather lazy animal and strives to set up a fiesta in the midday heat, resting under bushes or trees. This behavior helps warts avoid meeting predators who prefer to hunt at night, and during the day they sleep.
