Where do bears hibernate ?

Bears hibernate in den. Before he goes to the den, the bear carefully tries to tangle the tracks: he winds, walks along the windbreaks and even goes backwards in his tracks. For dens usually choose deaf and reliable places. Often they are located along the edges of impenetrable swamps, along the shores of forest lakes and rivers, in windbreaks and on logging areas.

The brown bear arranges its winter dwelling in hollows under twisted roots or trunks of trees, sometimes on a heap of brushwood or at an old woodpile. Less often for the house chooses a cave or digs deep earth holes – ground dens. The main condition – the dwelling should be dry, quiet and isolated from the presence of unexpected guests.

One of the signs of the proximity of the dens – large patches in the moss, gnawed or broken trees. The branches of the beast warm their shelter, and the layers of moss lining the litter. Sometimes the layer of the litter reaches half a meter. It happens that several generations of bears use the same dolphin.

It is born from one to four, but more often two cubs. Babies are born blind, without hair and teeth. They weigh only half a kilogram and hardly reach 25 cm in length. It is interesting that the nipples of the marmots are not located along the belly line, as in most animals, but in the warmest places: in the axillary and inguinal cavities.

The cubs feed on milk of 20 percent fat content of the still sleeping mother, and grow rapidly. For a few months of such feeding, the cubs are completely transformed, and they come out of the lair already shaggy and nimble. True, they are still very dependent.
