Where do magpies live ?

Habitats of forty are concentrated in the Northern Hemisphere, here they are found on all continents – in Eurasia, Africa and North America. Especially extensive is the area of the magpie common, which covers the entire temperate zone of Eurasia (except the Far East). Areas of other species are much narrower, for example, the California magpie lives only on the California peninsula, and the thick-legged azure magpie is found only in Taiwan. The range of the blue magpie is a mystery.

It consists of two sections: one covers the Far East – Korea, China, Japan, Primorye, north of Mongolia, and the second is … in the far west of Europe, in Spain, and Portugal! While science does not find an explanation of how populations of one species have been isolated at a distance of many thousands of kilometers.

But the habitat for all species is similar. Magpies prefer to populate forests of different types – coniferous, broad-leaved, tropical jungle, and live in the deep woods, and in parks, and in forest plantations and in woodlands. In search of food, they willingly visit open spaces: the banks of rivers and lakes, wastelands, glades, fields and meadows. Some species of forty last for most of the year singly and only after the withdrawal of the offspring form family groups, others, on the contrary, live in small flocks that decay into pairs during the nesting period. All kinds of forty are saddled and do not fly.
