Where do oysters live ?

Oysters live mainly in the tropical seas. The basis of world production is oysters grown in the US, in second place – in Japan, then – in South Korea. France occupies only the fourth place, but the best are French oysters.

Flat oysters are aborigines of French waters, they are preferred by connoisseurs and gourmets. They live on the shoals along the entire coast of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. This species includes four varieties, differing in quality and price:

Maren Oleron – the most outstanding representatives of their kind, they are supplied from the French province of Charente, they have round shells and greenish meat. Its bright color and delicate taste of marinas oysters are due to the microscopic algae that is found in the plankton-rich water of the Maren-Oleron region.

Belon – lives deep under the water in the north of Brittany, has a greyish-white color and a pronounced odor of iodine. It is believed that they received their name from the village on the coast, but now this proud name is worn by almost all oysters grown in the province of Brittany. Have a wonderful “wild” sea flavor.

Buzig – oysters of the Mediterranean, round, sometimes large, with a spicy, saturated marine aroma, brackish.
