The fish lives in shallow depths, mainly near the shore in the midst of algae and other marine vegetation. The structure of her body allows for good masking (the body is covered with long bony needles and ribbon-like cutaneous lesions). Hiding among the vegetation, the horse is practically invisible to its enemies. A seahorse can be compared to a chameleon, since skates are capable of changing the color of their bodies. The fish is attached to the stems and leaves of the plants and changes color so as to merge with the plant.
Very interesting is the process of feeding the seahorse. This fish belongs to the most voracious inhabitants of the seas and oceans. Practically round the clock the horse digs his food, taking breaks for 2-3 hours. The oral cavity is a long tube that passes into the cheeks. The muscles of the cheeks can stretch, so when the horse sees food, it sucks in water along with it.
It feeds on fish, mostly by coryza, in a day it eats at least three thousand crustaceans. In general, skates can eat almost everything, most importantly, that the size of food does not exceed the size of the mouth. Hunting skates is as follows: with the help of their flexible tail they cling to vegetation and freeze, remaining absolutely motionless until the extraction is at a distance of four centimeters from the head. Then the stalk absorbs water along with the food.
