The Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar is an amazing city. Directly in the middle of the boundless steppe rises a rapidly growing metropolis, and between cars and buses you can still see horse riders. Some twenty years ago, Ulaanbaatar was unremarkable, but now it is growing rapidly and developing. Unfortunately, at the same time, he gradually loses his historical appearance.
Winter here is usually not very snowy, since in winter the air is dry and there is almost no rainfall. But due to the lack of thaws, snow still lies until spring. Snowdrifts, however, almost never happen. The only university in all of Mongolia is located in Ulaanbaatar. bout half of the entire Mongolian population lives here. Ulaanbaatar is officially recognized as the coldest capital of the world. In winter, it sometimes happens -40 degrees. At the same time, in the summer heat at +40 is a common thing. The first building erected on the site of modern Ulaanbaatar was a Buddhist monastery.
This city is the only capital in the whole world where nomads still live. Their camps here occupy several vast areas. Modern high-rise buildings in Ulaanbaatar can be adjacent to traditional Mongolian yurts installed on lawns. In English, local residents practically do not speak. But some speak Russian – the proximity of Russia, as well as the presence in Ulaanbaatar of a decent number of Russian specialists are affecting. The name of the city in Mongolian is pronounced as “Ulaanbaatar”. Ulaanbaatar occupies only 0.3% of the entire Mongolia. Moreover, it is so large that there is a ring train that runs around the city.
In Ulaanbaatar there is the largest equestrian statue in the world, 40 meters high without a pedestal, it is dedicated to Genghis Khan. A lot of monuments were erected here. In the summer, dust storms periodically come from the Gobi Desert. As in all of Mongolia, the cult of Genghis Khan flourishes here. Four Ulaanbaatar streets bear his name. The standard of living in Ulaanbaatar is quite high. Despite the fact that salaries here are comparable to Moscow, or even higher than them, prices here are lower than in Russia. Almost the entire Ulaanbaatar is safe at any time of the day. The crime level here is very low, and serious crimes are rarely committed. Within the Ulaanbaatar, there are both rivers and lakes, but in winter they almost always freeze to the bottom. The Ulaanbaatar area exceeds Moscow by about 7 times, but the people here live almost 10 times less. The capital is the only truly urbanized city in all of Mongolia.
