Can guinea pigs eat spinach ?
Because of the high content of oxalic acid, spinach can be given only in small amounts. In addition to hay and granulated dry food, a variety of fresh vegetables (especially leafy greens) and some fruits should be present in the guinea pig’s diet daily.
Leafy greens should make up the bulk of the plant supplements of the guinea pig’s diet. Fruits and other plant products may be present in the diet in small amounts.
Avoid consumption of iceberg lettuce leaves (lettuce) because they have very little nutritional value. A good choice includes: cabbage, spinach, turnips, greens, parsley, romaine lettuce, dandelion greens.
Avoid or limit consumption: cabbage broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Chinese cabbage and other cruciferous plants, as they can lead to gas formation in the digestive tract.
