How long do Macaw live ?
The average life span of a macaw in the home is up to 50 years. In captivity the macaw can live much longer than at large, as here they will be protected from the dangers of wildlife. This period varies from 30 to 90 years. However, wherever they live, this is undoubtedly gregarious birds, but at the same time they choose a couple for themselves for many years.
Nest in the tree hollows. In the laying of 2-3 eggs, the female incubates from 24 to 30 days. Nestlings, despite the intensive growth, develop slowly and are ready to go on independent food only after 3 months, but still often stay at the parent’s wing for some time.
Macaw are very accurate and cautious birds, who carefully explore the territory for the presence of predators, before settling for the night. Despite the bright color, the birds are almost invisible in the foliage, as they sit silently on the branches, but the pieces of fruit falling down can give them away. Only in the event of danger do they rise into the air with loud cries.
These large and bright parrots for food can fly about 500 km per day, can reach speeds of up to 60 km / h.
