What do killer whales eat ?
Killer whale is the largest predator of oceanic expanses. To eat on a day, one killer whale needs 50 to 200 kg of meat. Because of such an immoderate appetite, killer whales almost always need to hunt. A clever hunter and a thunder-storm of all the oceans makes a killer whale. This is a fairly intelligent animal capable of acting both in a team and alone.
Most often, killer whales live in family groups. Each killer family prefers different kinds of food. For example, some groups prefer cephalopods and fish, while others prefer mammals. Observing such groups, scientists have established that mammals are hunted by families traveling on oceanic expanses, while fish are eaten by killer whales living in the same places. Therefore, the killer whale is divided into two varieties: killer whales “residents” – homebodies and killer whales “transit” – furrowing oceans.
For each prey, killer whales have their own method of hunting. Hunting for Whale whales is conducted by the whole family. Each member of the group has responsibilities. The males begin to hunt. The first thing they do is try to separate one whale from a flock or calf from the mother. Then they do not let the whale inhale air and bite the neck. As a result, the victim surrenders or dies of suffocation. After that, the whole pack starts feasting, tearing off the tidbits from the prey. Often, killer whales eat only the softest parts (lips, throat and tongue), the rest is thrown. Sperm whale, unlike other whales, they do not drive to the bottom, but on the contrary try to keep on the surface. Going to the depths, the sperm whale can easily escape the killer whales. On male sperm whales, killer whales do not risk attacking, as they are quite aggressive.
