Platypus is a waterfowl mammal detachment of single-pass, inhabiting Australia. This is the only modern representative of the family of platypus (Ornithorhynchidae); Together with echidna forms a detachment of monotremes (Monotremata) – animals, for a number of signs close to reptiles. This unique animal is one of the symbols of Australia; It is depicted on the reverse of an Australian coin of 20 cents.
Platypus is found in Eastern Australia – from Queensland to Tasmania. They were also brought to Kangaroo Island, off the southern coast of Australia. Usually, they settle near swamps, along the banks of rivers and lakes, feeling at home in cold high-mountain streams and in warm tropical lagoons. They build deep burrows in which they find refuge and lead offspring. The narrow entrance tunnel is designed to squeeze water from the host’s fur coat.
Platypus is an amazing creature of the animal world. It is a beautiful, secretive and shy creature. I call it the joke of God.
