The city of Makhachkala is often called the pearl of the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus. It is really ancient, despite the fact that it was founded in the Russian Empire. However, long before that, there already existed settlements and people lived here. Since our days, old traditions, customs and the mass of other cultural and historical heritage, which the south of the Russian Federation is so rich, have come down to.

Among all the major Russian cities, Makhachkala is growing faster than others. In winter it is cold here, and in summer it is hot. However, the Caspian Sea smoothes the climate, and in Makhachkala it was never hotter than +40.2 degrees. And the lowest recorded temperature was -26.8 degrees. In 1970, the city was severely damaged by the strongest earthquake. Summer in Makhachkala lasts longer than, for example, in Moscow – about 5 months.
