Beetles

Beetles – the most numerous among insects, live almost everywhere, except the seas. In scientific beetles they call the “Strong-winged squad”. Bugs have two upper wings, called elytra. They cover the soft beak of the beetle. During the flight, the beetles are raised. The two hind wings (lower) are thin and transparent. It is with their help that the beetles fly. The shapes and sizes of beetles are varied.

The body of adult beetles, like all other insects, consists of three parts: the head, chest and abdomen. Antennae in different families of beetles are also different: they may resemble a plate (white horseshoe), a string (alpine barbel), be combed (syringe) and be completely invisible or long. For example, a beetle has a mustache several times longer than its body.

The beetles include the largest beetle in the world – a woodcutter-titanium, it has a length of about 18 cm. The second largest is a beetle-oat-billed beaver about 16 cm long. They can hardly fit on an adult human palm. Their names were received in honor of heroes of ancient myths. The biggest beetle in Europe is a stag beetle. He is so named because of the excessive jaws of males, similar to the horns of these deer.

The way of life of a beetle can be judged by the shape of its body and its paws. There are burrowing beetles (scarab), floating (floating), running (ground beetle). Depending on the habitat, water and land beetles are distinguished. Ground bugs can be found in the meadow, in the forest, in the park, in the garden.

By the names of some you can even find out when they appear, for example the May bug, the July horseshoe. Water beetles inhabit mainly fresh water bodies. Beetle water loves the big likes of standing ponds, overgrown with aquatic plants. The beetle-buzzard can fly and travel overland, but hunts in the water and is one of the best swimmers. Beetle-whirligig, when swimming, can simultaneously look up and down, as his eyes are separated, and it seems that he has four eyes. He swims very fast in circles.

According to the nature of nutrition there are beetles predators (ground beetles and horses) and herbivorous (leaf beetles) – aspen leaf beetle, acorn weevil.

One of the most famous beetles is the Colorado beetle, which was once inconspicuous, but in the nineteenth century began to eat the leaves of potatoes that were grown in the US state of Colorado. Since he moved from wild plants to cultivated potato plants, the beetle got its name. People are waging an irreconcilable struggle in the fields and gardens.

Some beetles began to live together with a man, for example, a kozheed, which damages zoological collections in museums, spoils shoes, carpets. In furniture, a furniture grinder can live, and products can damage flour-bearing hrushes. Walls of houses can damage house barbel.
