Canadian Sphynx
The Canadian Sphynx is an unusual cat that looks like an elegant statuette. The gaze of her emerald eyes beats right into her heart. Her warm and velvety skin has absolutely no wool. The Canadian Sphynx embodied all the best that we know about cats, and in character and habits, it is very similar to humans.
People call these cats alien creatures. The front paws of the Sphinx have very long fingers, and therefore the cat is able to use them as if it were hands.
Sphinxes like to sleep on a bed, having laid a small head with big pink ears on a pillow. At the sight of this spectacle, no one can remain indifferent. A sphinx character is like a human, he does not tolerate any loneliness at all, he accepts a person as an equal.
He does not care what your house is and if it is cozy enough, it is important to him that you are in this house. And such a cat must always be present next to you. Sphinx will always rest in bed with you, look at you, adore you, kiss you in the nose. With his tenderness he forever conquers the heart of man, and no other cat can be as close as a sphinx.
There are three types of sphinxes in the world: the Don Sphynx, Pieterbold and the Canadian Sphynx. But only Canadian sphinxes gained worldwide recognition. This breed exists for about 30 years and is recognized as the best and aesthetically beautiful compared to such young breeds as the Don Sphynx and Piterbold with 10 years of experience. Scientists have revealed that the Canadian Sphynx is descended from the disappeared Mexican Sphinxes, those had a long body and a wedge-shaped head, and their eyes were amber in color, and they also had long mustaches.
Modern sphinxes have no whiskers and the eyes are always emerald. The Mexican ancestors in winter weather on the back and tail appeared wool, and by the summer she fell off, but the modern cat has mutated and the wool is no longer growing.
In 1966, in Canada, in Ontario, among kittens of an ordinary cat, a hairless kitten was found. He was called Prun. During puberty, Pruna was crossed with her mother, and they had kittens with fur, as well as hairless kittens. Further Pruna was brought down with his daughters and sisters in order to preserve the possibility of getting hairless kittens. That is the story of this breed.
For a long time, felinologists thought that only males could be born hairless and could not get a single naked female when they crossed, because only males were born from Prun’s cat. In 1075, a bald kitten was born from a simple cat in the town of Vaden, Minnesota, it was named Epidermis. A year later, this cat had a bald cat. This pair of hairless cats was taken to the nursery and began to breed. Soon a whole line of hairless cats appeared, its founder was Epidermis and his sister – hairless cat named Strada.
In the 70s, three hairless kittens were found on the streets of Toronto. Two cats and a cat, who was named Bambi. Bambi was in a terrible state, one eye was knocked out and his testicles were badly damaged. He underwent surgery to remove the testicles. Unfortunately Bambi could not become the founder of the breed, but became a long-liver among sphinxes. Bambi was the champion of the Sphynx, lived for 19 years and died quite happy. Two other cats, which were named Pinky and Paloma, were transported to Holland, where they became the founders of the European line of sphinxes.
To improve the breed, Canadian sphynxes were often crossed with Devon Rex with a close breed. In the first generation when mating in the Devon Rex were born naked kittens. However, a rush of other blood was not in vain for the Canadian breed. The head of the sphinxes became too round, with low-set ears. In addition, the body was too bony. This was all due to the degeneration of the breed. The wrinkled skin inherent in sphinxes began to be present only in kittens, and with growth it smoothed, the folds began to diverge, and the muzzle became completely smooth.
The first Canadian sphinxes appeared in Russia in Moscow in the nursery of Tanya Smirnova, she brought them from North America. They were a cat named Pelmen and a cat named Nefertiti. This couple was the first to give a huge offspring of Canadian sphinxes in Russia. The look of the Canadian Sphynx is unique, they look like beautiful porcelain figurines. They have long ears, thin paws and a rat tail. They have a character and behavior like cheerful children, and they do not consider themselves cats at all. These are very intelligent objects, they are easy to learn, and they really adore people. They get along well and get along with any other breeds of cats and are friendly to dogs.
