I will try to explain how to clean suede properly. Of course this also means how to clean suede shoes but really any kind of suede fabric.Be aware suede is softer than leather and can easily get dirty or stained. Additionaly it’s very hard to clean suede.

Therefore I highly recommend that to get professional help to clean your suede to prevent any bad surprises. Yes, to clean suede professionaly can be expencive but it’s usually worth it. If you want to try and clean suede yourself anyways, here we go. I don’t take responsibility for the outcome though.

What You’ll Need To Clean Suede:

  • Suede eraser or pencisl eraser
  • Soft towel
  • Suede brush
  • Suede cleaning solution
  • Vinegar and water
  • Baby wipes
  • Telefone book

All the upcoming tips are meant “as needed”. So if the stain is already gone after any of the tips just stop right there. You don’t want to impose any unnecessary threat on your beloved suede piece.

Step 1: Suede Eraser

Use a suede eraser for small dry stains. You may try using a pencil eraser if you don’t have a suede eraser. Always try your eraser on a non-visible area first, especially if you use a colored pencisl eraser.

Step 2: Soft Towel

Rub the stained area with a soft towel.

Step 3: Suede Brush

Brush the stained area gently with a suede brush.

Step 4: Suede Cleaning Solution

Damp a soft towel with cleaning solution. Then test a non-visible area of the suede first with the cleaning product to make sure you’re not making things worse. If the test is positive rub the stained area with the damp towel. Let the cleaned area air dry.

Step 5: Vinegar And Water

Mix one cup of white vinegar with two cups of water. Use this solution to scrub the stain out and let it air dry again. This method might leave a smell of vinegar. So skip this step if you distate the smell of vinegar.

Step 6: Baby Wipes

Step 7: Professional Suede Cleaning

If the stain still persists use the telephone book to find a professional cleaner.
