The writer Gleb Ouspensky was called the voice of the people, and for good reason – he was very close to the populists’ movement of the same name. All his work is literally permeated with reliable descriptions of the lives of ordinary people who have no means of subsistence or position in society. This revolutionary spirit of his made Ouspensky turned into a man who was admired by some and whom others despised.
Parents of the future writer were not rich, which led to difficulties in studying. He was forced to leave his studies as a lawyer due to lack of money. Subsequently, he entered another place in order to complete a law degree, but due to financial problems he never completed it.
The first attempt at writing he took place while still at the gymnasium.
The name of Gleb Ouspensky was not widely known, largely because of his habit of subscribing to a variety of pseudonyms, which he had a lot of.
For the first time, the publication of Ouspensky’s publication in a journal published by Leo Tolstoy saw the light.

Financial success never accompanied the writer. To provide for himself, he actively wrote for various publications, published his own works and worked as a tutor.
At the end of his life, Gleb Ouspensky was placed in a psychiatric hospital. The reason was a nervous breakdown caused by a neglected venereal disease. His condition was severe until his death.
