The real name of our hero is Belynsky, but he slightly modified it. Before the end of the 4-year study at the gymnasium, Vissarion Belinsky did not reach just six months, because studying there was unbearably boring for him. The birthplace of the literary critic is Sveaborg, a city that later became one of the districts of the Finnish capital Helsinki (interesting facts about Helsinki). In 1829, he entered the university and began to try his hand at prose and poetry, but three years later he was expelled due to extreme dissatisfaction with the censorship caused by his tragedy “Dmitry Kalinin”. He called Gogol one of the most prominent writers of his era. Partly because of Belinsky’s activities, Pushkin gained such fame. Being a religious man, after about 30 years, the critic became an atheist. Belinsky mercilessly even criticized the works of his close friends.
Because of Belinsky’s letter addressed to Gogol, Dostoevsky was sentenced to death, who brought this letter to the attention of the public. Subsequently, the sentence was replaced by hard labor.
