Thailand – customs and traditions
Fantastic country of Thailand Southeast Asia, which attracts more and more tourists. She even entered the top 10 countries in terms of attendance. Not only exotic lures tourists to themselves, but also their customs and rules that are not similar to others. Many advise them to understand, before the trip, that would be more comfortable to feel. But surely many, like me, do not do it, because they do not want to spoil the essence of the trip. After arriving at the place, knowing everything will not be so interesting.
Thais are interesting, cheerful people, always smiling. They have decided not to show, on their face or by their behavior, that they feel bad or something has happened. So you will not see the Thai in tears. But in communicating with them in no case touch their head. She is sacred. If we stroke the head or someone, we straighten the hair – this is, let’s say, a sign of attention or care on our part, but for them it is perceived as a real insult. After all, according to centuries of Thai belief, the spirit of the person who protects his life is in their heads. And women in general should not be touched without their consent, since almost all of them are conservative and I can also take it as an insult.
Do not point to anything, or even more so, to anyone with your foot and lower parts of the body. Such a gesture will be perceived as utter disrespect, because in them they are considered sinful. It is also undesirable to sit, having directed or crossed legs in the direction of the statue or the image of Buddha. And in general just to sit with your legs crossed in any other place is not accepted. Also, they do not perceive the fact that people walk, holding hands, hugging or kissing. In any houses, in temples, take off your shoes, even if they do not ask you to. They will be unpleasant if you stay in the shoes, although they do not give the form. They are also welcomed in a special way, having joined the palms in front of them with a “boat” and say “wai”. But do not do this with everyone, for example with the waiters or with the maids – this is not their custom.
There is such a belief that in every house live spirits and protect the Thais and their hearth. So you will undoubtedly see not big beautiful houses in every building, house, institution, etc. etc. And it consists of three houses, the first middle one – there live the spirits of deceased relatives, in the second the largest one is the guardian “spirit”, and in the third the smallest for Thai health and the good of standing, for the soul in general. Every day, early in the morning, they get up and present food for the spirit and pray. They are sacred to all these traditions. And the house and its keeper above all. Put this house even before the construction of the house.
Not one Thai you will not know the name, but only the nicknames, for example: boy, dog, girl. Names only know their parents. All because they are very afraid of the spirit that will come and take them. Even horror films they have about these spirits are considered and they are the most terrible. The Thai people are superstitious and one of these superstitions is the number thirteen “13”. They are also afraid of him and try to avoid him, and there is a lot of evidence of this. You will not find the thirteenth floor, the thirteenth house, street, apartment, there are the twelfth and fourteenth, but they simply do not have the thirteenth. Yes, yes, such is their people.
As you know, they have Thailand – this is a kingdom and naturally, there is a king, the real one. Rama IX Bhumibol Adulyadej, born in 1927. The longest ruler. Thais are very appreciative of him, and I respect him, they consider him their second father. So what about him and the whole kingdom to speak badly unaccepted, you can go to jail for a long time. Although there are exceptions – this is his son Prince Maha Vigiralonkorn, born in 1952, who should, after his father’s death, inherit the throne of the king. But the Thais do not want this, because they know that he is a mob and openly, they talk about it. And all that is connected with King Rama IX, Bhumibol Adulyadej, is holy.
Money with his image (in Thai, they are called “bats”) can be torn, in no case should they be thrown away, there have been cases when they were imprisoned for it. Once we are talking about his majesty, you can talk a little about him and about his family, in general. As I said he is the longest reigning king and monarch, he is also the richest. Although he is very loyal to the king, but his birth in 1927 is not Thailand, but the United States in Massachusetts, Cambridge. And he is the only Thai in Thailand who has two citizenships, American and Thai. And his father, Mahidon Songla, studied medicine at Harvard University, as did his elder brother, Prince Ananda Mahidon.
