History of basketball in the world
The ball game, which needs to be brought to someone else’s shield and sent to a ring called “basketball”, was born more than 120 years ago in North America. She passed during this time the way from the modest fun of students to a great sporting spectacle. Participate in tournaments now not only amateurs, but also professional players with multimillion-dollar contracts. And they are followed by millions of fans.
1959. Springfield. In the homeland of the sport, the Basketball Hall of Fame was created, which received the name of James Naismith. On February 17, 1968, he was opened for visits. “Exhibits” – famous players, coaches, judges and other people who made an important contribution to the development and popularization of the game. So, on May 11, 1992 the former defender of Sverdlovsk Uralmash and Moscow CSKA, Olympic champion 1972 Sergey Belov was included in the Hall of Fame. Later, he got the famous Soviet coach Alexander Gomelsky and Arvydas Sabonis and Sharunas Marchulionis who played under him in the USSR national team in 1988. Included in the lists of Hall members and two-time Olympic champion (1976, 1980) in the Soviet national team Ulyana Semenova.
1960. Riga. The local SKA establishes, under the leadership of Alexander Gomelsky, a record that has never been beaten by anyone: he wins the Champions / Euroleague Cup for the third time in a row.
