Like many other great writers, Mikhail Zoshchenko had a difficult life. He did not always find a common language with the authorities, which caused a lot of problems. But it must be admitted that, despite all the difficulties and sometimes even persecution, he remained true to his principles until the very end.
At the age of six young Michael almost drowned while swimming in the Neva.
His first work, a short story called “Coat”, was written by a future writer at the age of 13.
While studying at the gymnasium, Michael dreamed of becoming a writer, despite the fact that he studied very poorly, lagging behind in many subjects, especially in the Russian language and literature.
Over the course of his life, Zoshchenko managed to change many professions, from a shoemaker to a criminal investigation agent.
As a member of the hostilities on the fronts of the First World War, the writer received 5 orders for personal merits.
From 1943 to 1953, Zoshchenko was on the black list of writers, and his works were banned from publication. The situation changed only after the death of Stalin.

Throughout his life, the writer suffered from the effects of the gas attack, which he suffered at the front.
In 1941, Mikhail Zoshchenko was exiled to Almaty. With him he was allowed to take only 12 kg of luggage.
Zoshchenko was called a “scum” for his work “Before Sunrise” and forbade him to publish his works. After this ban, he became a shoemaker in order to at least earn a living.
The writer’s death resulted from cardiac arrest caused by nicotine poisoning.
