Interesting facts about Khan-Tengri
Khan-Tengri is one of the highest peaks in the world, although it is not as well known as Elbrus, Everest or Mont Blanc. This amazing pyramidal peak seems to reach the sky, and its peak is often lost somewhere high in the clouds. This place is very popular not only among climbers, but also just for fans to admire the fads of nature.
For the first time climbers reached the summit of Khan Tengri only in 1931.
The top of the peak rises to a height of 7010 meters, but 25 meters from this figure is the glacier covering it.
A resident of Novosibirsk, mountaineer Gleb Sokolov, established a kind of record – he conquered the summit of Khan-Tengri already thirty-four times.
Because of its not the most typical form, Khan-Tengri is considered to be one of the most beautiful and picturesque mountains in the world.
In 2002, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan issued a 100 soms note with the image on the back of the Khan-Tengri peak.
Khan-Tengri is at the junction of the borders of just three countries – China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
In translation from the Turkic language “Khan-Tengri” means “Lord of the heavens”.
In the rays of the setting sun, the mountain sometimes seems red because of the large amount of marble in it, so the second name Khan-Tengri is the “Blood Mountain”.
