Holidays in Dombay
Dombay is one of the most prestigious and equipped Russian ski resorts. Skiers and snowboarders from all over the country and the neighboring CIS countries look forward to the beginning of the season every year to go to this ski paradise. And it is not for nothing that they enjoy such popularity among them!
Moreover, it will be equally interesting here both for beginners who only try snow with steel piping, and confident skiers who have hundreds of kilometers of sparkling snow behind them. And even those who try themselves in freeride, not afraid to plow the virgin snow untouched before them.
One of the main advantages of Dombai is a large number of tracks and a very different level of difficulty. There are wild, non-traveled areas for lovers of genuine extreme sports, and trails for a quiet ride with the whole family, and wide, uniform areas for beautiful carving, and places where beginners can safely and comfortably try themselves in a new form of outdoor activity for them.
Moreover, most of the quiet trails in Dombay. For example, on Cheget, the tracks are very, very bumpy, suitable for learning the mogul rather than for comfortable riding on vacation. The hillocks require special footwork and confident possession of ski poles, so the classic skills of the old school are more suitable there than the ability to draw beautiful carving arcs in the snow. There is simply nowhere to write them out, especially given the narrow “pipe” roll out. For snowboarders and lovers of skiing without sticks, Cheget is generally of little use. It should also be remembered that Cheget is an avalanche hazardous mountain.
Things are not much better for beginners on Elbrus. Unlike Cheget, on Elbrus there are areas suitable for beginners, for example, a quiet descent from the Krugozor station to the Azau valley. But there are other difficulties. The main one is the prehistoric lifts of the first and second stage, queues for which can be expected for forty minutes at each landing. And the tracks close at fifteen. Previously, the situation was saved by a new gondola lift, which duplicates the first place, but after its failure the situation completely worsened. In addition, the weather is very unstable on Elbrus, a snowstorm may suddenly begin, and then the tracks are completely closed.
In Dombay, the weather is highly stable, snowstorms and winds are extremely rare, there are a lot of sunny days. The climate in Dombay is mild, the temperature in winter rarely drops below -5 degrees Celsius. The relief of most of the tracks is smooth, the slopes have a uniform slope and considerable width, which allows you not to interfere with each other while skiing.
And what could be better in a ski resort than on a sunny day in a small frost rushing down a wide snowy field, writing out arcs and raising white sparkling fountains with edging? This will be a pleasure even for those who first went skiing or taking their first snowboarding lessons. Indeed, for the sake of this, thousands of people leave winter wet cloudy cities for a vacation and rush into the mountains, towards the sun, creaking snow and speed.
Dombay is also unique in that on some days the temperature at the height of the route does not just rise to plus marks, but reaches +15, or even +18 degrees, which allows you to ride, without exaggeration, in a bathing suit. The abundance of ultraviolet and clean mountain air will add even more pleasure from a stay in Dombay.
It is worth noting that advanced skiers and snowboarders in Dombay will also not be bored. Freeride and heli-skiing are offered, and a halfpipe and a fan park are built for snowboarders. There will be something to do after skiing, as there are six discos, twelve bars, seven restaurants in the resort, and there are indoor pools, bowling and darts. Comfortable hotels, from the chic “Mountain Peaks” to the exotic “Plate”, will welcome everyone.
The infrastructure of Dombai generally needs to be paid tribute to, this applies to both additional entertainment and the solution to the basic needs of people who have come to ride and relax. The ski resort, located in the range of heights from 1650 m to 3050 m above sea level, is equipped with five stages of chairlift, a whole network of drag lifts, in addition to them a pendulum road, the so-called carriage, and a gondola lift. And all this makes sense, since the total length of the Dombai ski slopes is about twenty kilometers. There is a rental in the ski center, for those who arrived without equipment, the services of instructors are offered both for skiing lessons and for beginner snowboarders. There are trainers for children’s learning.
Dombay is located on Russian territory, in the Republic of Karachay-Cherkessia, adjacent to the main mountain range of the Caucasus. You can get there in several, almost equivalent ways. First, by plane or train, you need to get to the city of Mineralnye Vody, and from there, right from the main square, there is a bus to the Dombai resort.
