Katerina’s parrots
Katerina’s thick-billed parrots or, in everyday life, just katarinka are considered one of the popular house birds. In addition to the beautiful appearance of katarinka, they are characterized by a calm character and quick wit.
These are very sociable and smart birds, which contain no difficulties in the house.
The peculiarity of katarinka is that they like to run rather than fly, so they need a spacious cage, and preferably an aviary. In food, they are not at all pretentious, they are happy to eat any fruits, vegetables, as well as dry seeds and insect larvae. Unfortunately, these birds do not have colloquial abilities.
Katerina’s parrots live in the natural forests of Southern Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Honduras and Nicaragua. They are found in the coastal Andes of Venezuela, Peru and Colombia and in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
Since ancient times, katerinka were domestic birds, mainly residents of these countries, but with the advent of regular flights between America and Europe, these cute birds also got into the homes of Europeans. And over time, they even started to breed them in many countries of Europe. The last two decades, katerinka began to appear in Russia, more and more gaining popularity among parrot lovers.
