Indeed, the city is a concentration of a huge number of impressive skyscrapers with its impressiveness and grandeur. These are the world-famous Empire State Building, Bank of America Tower, Times Square Tower, Twin Towers, Freedom Tower and many others.

The most famous is rightly built in Manhattan in 1931 in just 1 year of the Empire State Building.

This skyscraper was considered the highest in the world for 40 years after its construction. A distinctive feature of the tower is the presence of an impressive spire, which was planned to be used as a pier for airships. From the idea subsequently abandoned and used the highest point of the spire as a viewing platform. In the evening, the skyscraper will impress with unusual beauty. It stands out among the rest of the glass skyscraper and thanks to the style of construction – Art Deco.

The twin towers of the World Trade Center were haunted by the tragic events since their construction: the fire of 1975, the bombing of a truck with explosives in 1993, and the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, which killed nearly 3,000 people. These skyscrapers were considered the personification of the power not only of New York, but of the whole country, therefore, attracted opponents and enemies.

The Tower of Bank of America is the most “environmentally friendly” high-rise building of modern times. Special systems for water purification, air, self-generation system of electricity – only minor modern technologies used in the construction and operation of the skyscraper. The tower in Times Square can often be seen in the news clips about New York due to the characteristic abundance of luminous advertising boards and signs.

Times Square

Times Square is considered to be not only the center of Manhattan, but also the heart of New York. This is one of the main attractions of the city. It is here that, in honor of the New Year, a well-known crystal ball is dropped from the skyscraper. A famous skyscraper, completely shrouded in a variety of advertising boards, filling the area with light, can often be seen in the news clips about New York.

The square got its name from the publisher of the most popular American newspaper, The New York Times, which, in honor of the opening of the newspaper’s publishing house in 1904, proposed to rename the square, which had previously been named Long Acres, respectively. The area in its history has not always been a place of rest. In the 70s, Times Square was associated with crime, violence and debauchery. However, by the 90s, the area acquired its former face and became a favorite resting place for citizens and tourists.

Wall Street

Wall Street is small in size, but such a significant street for the city in the financial sense. Moreover, the area around the street is considered to be a separate block in the Manhattan area, called: “financial”. The latter is connected with the location on the street of the world famous New York Stock Exchange and, as a result, the concentration of significant, including global, capital.

The whole world economy depends on the activities of the exchange. So, in October 1929 a collapse occurred on this exchange, followed by a decline in the economy for several decades. This event has since been referred to as Black Thursday. Here are the twin towers of the World Trade Center, which are associated with the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

The history of the street is interesting. In ancient times, it was the location of a huge wall that served as a defense for the settlers from the attacks of the Indians. Subsequently, a road was laid along the wall, which received the appropriate name. Back in those days, the plane tree on Wall Street served as a gathering place for merchants and speculators of various securities, which at the end of the 18th century created a large association called the “Plane Agreement”.

Over time, the activities of the association turned into the largest stock exchange in the world. After the September 11 attacks, financial and business activity in the Wall Street area dropped significantly, as large companies began to look for quieter and more reliable locations for offices in other cities and districts of New York.
Despite the above events, Wall Street is considered to be one of the main attractions of New York.

Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is a truly unique structure, which is also a symbol of New York, the main attraction, a masterpiece of sculptural craftsmanship and engineering thought. Indeed, any poster of the city is not conceivable without the Statue of Liberty, the grand and monumental building of the great Gustav Eiffel.

At once it must be said that the Statue of Liberty is the abbreviated name of the monument, the full one sounds like “Freedom, illuminating the world. The height of the statue of the Roman goddess, in one hand which holds the torch, and in the other – the tablet with the date of adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, is over 93 meters. The weight of the monument is more than 120 tons. The statue is symbolized by the freedom of the United States, which is also indicated by the shackles at the feet of the goddess.

The story of the appearance of the statue arose after the end of the US civil war and the abolition of slavery. The French, as a token of friendship, decided to give the Americans a monument. Initially, the sculptor Bartholdi was involved in the preparatory work. Since the idea was large-scale, the work was carried out very slowly. Soon after the death of the project engineer, the famous Gustave Eiffel began to work. Construction required considerable financial investments. In general, the construction of the monument lasted more than 11 years, the grand opening of the statue took place in 1886. The construction of the statue is also interesting from an engineering point of view, since the stability of the statue was provided not by the bearing external elements, but by the crossbars connecting the external elements with the internal support.

It is possible to raise tourists to the crown of the goddess, as well as to the observation deck, located in the torch of the statue. Tourists who visited the statue say that these are unforgettable and inexpressible feelings and emotions. Therefore, visiting New York, be sure to visit the Statue of Liberty!

The old railway tracks, preserved in places, side by side with flowers, bushes, trees, and fountains erected along the entire park. Such a symbiosis of nature and industry.
