The city of Tolyatti is known to all Russians, at least as the Russian capital of the automotive industry. But it is interesting in itself, that all fans of domestic tourism who visit it note. At the same time, there is nothing too special in Tolyatti, but the general cleanliness of the city, the interesting architecture, the attractions and the friendliness of the locals make it a really pleasant place.
More people live in this city than in all of Montenegro. Tolyatti is in the top 20 most populated cities in Russia. The city has five universities. The level of education in them is considered good. The city was founded in the 18th century to protect against nomads. The first settlers in Tolyatti were baptized Kalmyks resettled here.
Togliatti used to be called Stavropol, but now the name is a completely different city. Renamed it back in the 60s of the last century. In the 1950s, almost the entire city had to be moved to a new location, since extensive flooding of the adjacent territory was planned for the construction of hydropower plants. It received its modern name in honor of the Italian Communist leader Palmiro Togliatti. About 25% of the total area of the city is covered with forests and parks.
In Togliatti, on the initiative of the residents, they erected a monument to a dog who had been waiting for her host for seven years, just like the famous Japanese dog Hachiko. There are even their own mountains – Zhiguli. They are known mainly due to the healing sources available there. For many years AvtoVAZ has been the city-forming enterprise of Togliatti.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in Tolyatti plus 40.4 degrees, and the lowest – minus 43.4. This is a very sunny city. Cloudless skies over Tolyatti can be observed on average 285 days a year.
