Karlstejn Castle

To date, in the Czech Republic a lot of locks have been preserved intact. Castles stand proudly on the rocks, recalling the wealth and honor of their creators. A real diamond among all Czech castles is Karlštejn Castle, built by Emperor Charles IV. For the construction of the castle, the emperor chose a very good place – a mountain surrounded by five more. At the same time, the road leading to the castle is perfectly visible from the top.

Established in his decision, Karl in 1348 laid the first stone in the construction of the castle. The castle is under construction for nine years and by 1357 was almost ready.

Karlstejn Castle is located less than thirty kilometers from Prague. Arriving at the place immediately can not see anything. The road meanders along one long street between the houses with souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes. Only a few hundred meters away there is a magnificent view: the mountains suddenly part and the fortress itself is visible in the distance. She flies over the forest and mountains, raising her Big Tower to the sky.

If a tourist is lucky to come here in the summer, the beautiful view of the castle is framed by the greenery of the forests and the absolute blue of the sky. In winter, the castle is also very beautiful in its own way against the backdrop of sparkling snow, but in summer the picture is much more contrasted. Climbing to the castle Karlštejn lasts a long time, if you walk. On the square, where all visiting tourists gather, there are open landau. When you go up to the castle, you have to go around it, and it seems that this fortress is very big.

In the small courtyard of the castle, the tourist is met by an orchestra performing a carcass for each new party of tourists. The first room where you enter the castle is the Mansky Hall. This is an impressive room, richly decorated with a wooden ceiling and a fireplace from the 14th century. It was in this hall that vassals, who were charged with guarding the castle, had gathered. There is a parade of the brush of Modena, which Karl treasured, and a large map of the Holy Roman Empire during his reign.

Soon you find yourself in the emperor’s bedroom – a modest small alcove, which once again underlines that for the emperor Charles IV, the spiritual side of life was more important than the physical one. During the inspection of the entire exposition of the castle you will find a whole collection of paintings with many portraits of the king’s relatives. The only inconvenience will be a lack of time for sensible inspection. Among the paintings hung in the palace there are many works of famous masters of that time who were able to bring the life and looks of the former inhabitants of the castle to us.

Arriving in the Czech Republic, be sure to visit the castle Karlštejn, you will spend an unforgettable time, and get emotions that will remind you of this pleasant journey for a long time.
