Interesting facts about Ryazan

Ryazan – the city is not just old, but truly ancient. Archaeologists have found that primitive people lived in the place where the city now stands, thousands of years ago, although officially Ryazan, of course, is not so old. But in the vicinity of the city, important archaeological finds are still periodically found.

The first settlements on the territory of modern Ryazan appeared in the Paleolithic era – archaeologists discovered a silicon hack near the city, made more than 80 thousand years ago. In addition, Ryazan stands on the bones of mammoths, woolly rhinos and giant deer.
Until the end of the 18th century, the city was called Pereyaslavl-Ryazan.
Many distant Russian cities were fed on Ryazan bread from the 12th century, as the surrounding lands are notable for their amazing fertility.
In the middle of the 19th century, the writer Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin was the deputy head of Ryazan and the head of the local Treasury Chamber.
According to legend, during the Great Patriotic War, the command banned the Germans from bombing the historical center of Ryazan, so the local Kremlin survived.
Traffic on the railway line between Ryazan and Moscow is left-sided.

The only state museum of the Airborne Forces and military vehicles in the country is located in Ryazan.
Among the exhibits of the Ryazan gingerbread museum there is a snow-covered village and a panel with the facades of European houses.
In Ryazan and its immediate surroundings there is a network of monasteries, which are among the oldest in Russia.
Many well-known people were born in Ryazan – the first Russian Nobel laureate Ivan Pavlov, the mother of Peter the Great, the poet Sergey Yesenin, the creators of the Russian nuclear shield were the Utkin brothers, the founder of cosmonautics Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, and so on.

In Ryazan, there are several unusual sculptures – “Piggy Bank”, “Students” (in honor of the heroes of “Operation Y”), “The Constitution of 1936” and “Mushrooms with eyes”.
The world famous cosmetic brand Max Factor appeared in Ryazan. The company’s founder, Maximilian Faktorovich, opened the first store in the city to sell his cosmetics. The business was successful, and after the emigration of Faktorovich to the USA, his company grew to a transnational corporation.
